If you were a nationally-syndicated, progressive columnist, your stock-in-trade during the primary season would be your "impartiality," or "issues-oriented" approach - as many people denigrate the writings of "partisan hacks," those who "shill" for their candidate under the guise of their, um, superior grasp on the issues, rather than their slavish fealty to any candidate.
So it's not surprising that David Sirota, known here as davidsirota, would want to, nay, need to, cling to an image of being above the fray, candidate-endorsement-wise.
Yet, on April fifth, David penned this diary.
In the diary, he stated
If you are a voter looking for a candidate who is willing to confront the biggest issues facing America right now - Iraq, economic class, the middle class squeeze and skyrocketing inequality - then there really is no contest in the Democratic presidential primary right now: John Edwards is your candidate.
and
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have been hesitant to take sides in the presidential race because it is important for us to use the campaign to see where the candidates are on the issues. Up until now, I haven't been for any of them, because I was still studying them... (emphasis added)
When asked about this, here, last night, David's response was, in part:
I have made clear I have not endorsed any candidate. To say otherwise or try to twist my words is pathetic, and deliberately dishonest. I've written good and bad things about many of the different candidates.
I propose to disentangle this sticky mess with a simple poll, below. Please visit David's diary, be sure nothing was taken out of context, and register your opinion below.
Because I'm confused.
