UPDATE/QUESTION: Sorry for the ignorance on my part after 2 years here...what's a concern troll? I'm being labelled below as one and just want to know what it is.
Please please hack away at me!
I think Kos' diary could have been a nice display of the typical Wingnut temperament. But I have to take exception, based on some ethical concerns. I teach this stuff, but am by no means an expert.
Please be patient with a tiny Ethics 101 lesson and then feel free to flame away.
And when I say 'ethics' I'm talking specifically Virtue Ethics, as written by Aristotle.
Basically, in an entirely too small nutshell, Aristotle tells us that the goal of life is happiness and that happiness is based on how we develop both inner character and outer works. Becoming 'good' by doing 'good'
The argument continues that nobody is born virtuous and thus we must emulate virtuous people in order to understand 'good behavior.' It is the oldest of Western ethical themes and has been recycled in many guises, like the "7 Habits" craziness of the late 80's.
In the end though, the conclusion is that being good depends on a certain moderation of behavior, an emulation of good persons and a desire to educate children in these areas.
So, when I see an email beginning "you dishonest hack" I do bristle, as I do to the commentary that follows, the majority of which resembles nothing like character, leadership or maturity. I see not much to emulate.
I totally agree that Curl seems to be a childish rage-aholic, super-agressive name-calling weenie.
I just don't think we had to give him the time of day to prove it.
