This is the best oratator in the party and the most charismatic politician since definitely Clinton possibly the Kennedys and THAT was his first major speech as a top-tier presidential contender? How disappointing.
Whoever the heck is in Obama's ear get the heck out of it, because if this is what the Obama for President campaign is going to be about, I and a lot of other voters are going to start listening a lot more about the "Two Americas" and the "New Mexico Comeback."
That speech was a bomb - not just for Obama, but for any candidate.
It was completely devoid of substance from a candidate who is already fighting the narrative of inexperience and "all sizzle and no meat."
I mean seriously what could he be thinking? Is he worried about peaking too soon?
But really I wasn't moved by any of the speeches and only surprised by Richardson - perhaps because my expectations were so low for him. What was really on display at the DNC Winter meeting was the complete lack of talented speech writers in the party. Ted Sorensen these guys are not. I wouldn't hire them to write an skit for a high school television station.
Someone please get NBC to cancel Studio 60, so Aaron Sorkin can get to doing what he'd really like to do: inspire the American people with great speeches.
