Here is a short email I just wrote to Rahm Emanuel after hearing that is he telling freshmen congresspeople to stay off of The Colbert Report. Unfortunately, I live outside Illinois' 5th District, so I doubt he will give it 5 seconds of his time. However, I would love to see about 1,000 emails similar to this find their way into Rahm's email box from The Colbert Nation here at DailyKos. Please, everyone go onto his website and tell him that going on The Colbert Report is an asset for Democrats and that the more popular Colbert is, the more people will see the idiocy of Republicans' ideological views.
How dare you tell freshmen congresspeople to stay off of The Colbert Report. The Colbert Report is one of the best shows on TV and is one of the major reasons why the Democrats garner a large majority of the 18-25 yr old vote. If it wasn't for shows like this and The Daily Show helping to show the absurdity and incompetence of the Republicans, you would still be in the minority in Congress. Appearing on The Report has never harmed anyone's credibility, in fact, it actually has helped many of these same freshmen congresspeople gain name recognition among the millions of young voters who watch the show every night.
Congressman Emanuel, I give you some credit for helping the Democrats win in 2006, however, don't act you have become a King-maker just because you helped to guide us to victory. Many many people were involved in the election last year, including many that you have never thanked publicly (Howard Dean and all of the state grassroots organizations he helped to build, for instance). You are only hurting the party when you tell our congresspeople not to go on a half hour comedy show that is a satire on the Republican ideology of arrogance and ignorance. Free these congresspeople from your grip now and allow them to show their "real side" to the nation's youth, even if you are too much of a stiff politician that is afraid to scratch his flawless reputation to go on the show yourself.
