The one person who has been conspicuously silent on the Imus controversy is Jeffrey Immelt, the CEO of GE which owns NBC and MSNBC. My initial inclination is say that, given the fact that Immelt is a serial donor to the Republican Party, Immelt Wiki entry there is no way he will fire Imus. After all, Imus generates $50 million a year.
But perhaps I'm not being fair. After all, GE has made a very big deal about its corporate responsibility to support human rights GE Human Rights PDF as well as its employment practices policy which emphasizes respect GE Employment Practices.
So, let's ask Gary Sheffer, Executive Director, Communications and Public Affairs for GE at gary.sheffer@ge.com a simple question in regards to Imus. Namely, given Jeffrey Immelt's previous statements on leadership, as well as the fact that GE employs thousands of people who are outraged at Imus' comment, does GE feel it is right to keep Imus on the payroll.
If GE feels that Imus should remain with the company, then the conclusion that GE puts profits over honor, profits over leadership in the community, seems apparent.
