The complex causes of climate change and the domino effects of rising global temperatures are predicted to have direct consequences on people's health and lives.
The Nation's Health is the official newspaper of the American Public Health Association.
Statement of Editorial Purpose
The Nation's Health focuses on the news that public health professionals need to know, whether it's happening in their state legislatures, the nation's capital or on a global scale. Stories in The Nation's Health cover the public health spectrum, focusing on issues such as infectious disease, bioterrorism, immunizations, patients' rights, food safety, infrastructure, vision health, racial and ethnic disparities, environmental issues and traffic safety.
With this their purpose, The Nation's Health is a publication that (unintentionally?) ties together the disastrous effects of the many levels of incompetence within the current government.
The FDA and OSHA mismanagement, the lack of controls on the use of non-renewable energies, the complete disregard of the health care system in this country, and the trillions of dollars used to provide sitting ducks in a civil war instead of towards parks and green spaces are just a few ways the Bush administration threatens our very existence as it pertains to preparedness.
We must be physically prepared, health wise, to both help and combat the effects of global climate change. Safer healthier foods, no products/foods that don't have long term safety data, greater access for the general public to obtain affordable organic fruits and vegetables, safe areas in urban environments for children to play and adults to get exercise, simpler ways to use public transportation instead of single occupant vehicles.
"The reason I think global warming may be the largest public health threat we've ever faced is because the health risks cut across so many different exposure pathways," he said. "There's no denying that it's a big problem, and it's a human-induced problem, which means there's something we can do about it."
Just which (reasoning person) is left that does not understand how serious Climate Change is for our world? The underlying message in this article is that there is no debate.
With the world's top scientists declaring human behavior at the root of global warming and new warnings that work must begin now to prevent its catastrophic effects, climate change has firmly cemented its place on the international stage........CDC is now bringing together experts to help the agency chart its course on climate change, Frumkin said, and CDC Director Julie Gerberding, MD, MPH, has committed to making climate change an agency priority.
"There is a very promising overlap between built environment issues and climate change issues," Frumkin said. "As we better understand how to create healthier communities, the same interventions that promote health will also protect the public from climate change."
The Nation's Health article points out is that there is a win-win solution. Improving health lifestyles = Healthier environment = Healthier humans.
Save your planet by saving your health.
