Some songs do not deserve to become hits. Some songs are very well written, performed, or produced and still become annoying because they're overplayed. Either way, every musician has a mental list of songs they do not want to play because they have heard it enough.
If you're playing for a crowd, and they ask for a big hit that you hate, what do you do? Do you pretend you've never heard of it? (Stairway to Heaven? By who?) Do you mention that you don't have the right equipment to do it justice? Do you imply you played it at your last gig?
Join us as we discuss how to avoid playing the songs we hate and others want, in today's Music Room.
My husband loved pretending he didn't know mega-hits such as Stairway or Hotel California (songs he liked but was sick of) and was too polite to blow off requests for songs he hated. I'd usually admit I knew the song but was afraid I couldn't do it justice. Share your stories of how to avoid the song without losing your audience's support.
This is a community diary. All topics on musicians, music, and other noise are welcome.
