Standing up for Rohrabacher seems to be a full time job in his district. Right now, the battle over his credibility as a Congressman seems to be playing out in the Daily Pilot, a Costa Mesa / Newport Beach publication that always seems to have at least two adoring fans ready to post as soon as there is something with his name on it.
Rohrabacher is now defending his indefensible comments regarding extraordinary rendition.
It is justified to suggest that those who want to neuter our defenses to save one or two people who may have been mistakenly targeted may be creating a scenario that could result in the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent lives.
It is also justified to suggest that his view might change if it someone from the US who was mistakenly targeted by the Mossad. But then, that assumes that he is sensitive to the nuance of a situation.
Rohrabacher is hitting back after an Open Letter from Orange County Democratic Chairman, Frank Barbaro appeared in the Daily Pilot that questioned the wisdom on Rohrabacher's comments.
Personally, I think that Barbaro's comments were timid, considering the long range implications of keeping Rohrabacher in office. Keeping Rohrabacher's jawings in the public spotlight is always a good thing. Finding a credible candidate to take on Crazy Dana would be even better. So far, a little noise but no action. Every progressive possibility, like Huntington Beach Council member Debbie Cook, has been non-committal or said that they are not planning to run against him.
