I just read Steve Clemons latest entry over at Huffington Post and this scares the crap out of me.
The thinking on Cheney's team is to collude with Israel, nudging Israel at some key moment in the ongoing standoff between Iran's nuclear activities and international frustration over this to mount a small-scale conventional strike against Natanz using cruise missiles (i.e., not ballistic missiles).
This strategy would sidestep controversies over bomber aircraft and overflight rights over other Middle East nations and could be expected to trigger a sufficient Iranian counter-strike against US forces in the Gulf -- which just became significantly larger -- as to compel Bush to forgo the diplomatic track that the administration realists are advocating and engage in another war.
If this has already been diaried, please send me the link and I'll delete this.
I find this story completly credible as Cheney is one of the most evil people I have ever seen. And we already know about most of his activities to get us into Iraq, and they were considerable.
The deal here is this story needs to be verified, quoted, printed, video taped, broadcast on radio, and generally spread everwhere there is an available ear. Because even THAT may not stop this mad man, but it might!
Many think the Neo-cons are dead and gone, but I still see Bill Kristol and his minions on my TV on Sunday. These guys are not dead and have not given up. Their screwy ideas about how the world should look is still driving their actions.
Let's not look back on this in 9 months and say "Crap! We should have stopped them then."
