Its quite obvious that many of us here feel strongly about the I-Word. In the last few weeks, I-Word diaries have been getting consistent play on the rec list. And yet nobody is noticing, and AFAIK Kos et al. are still against the idea of the I-Word.
If what the current flow of the I-Word talk can be described as a brewing storm...
Let's turn it into a motherfucking tornado.
Specifics below the fold.
If you are for impeachment, this is to be your routine:
- Post an impeachment diary every day: Unless there's another topic you really want to cover for that day, voice your opinion. I say screw the rules about requiring three original paragraphs to post a diary: post anywhere from a long diatribe to a simple "Can we impeach him now?" with a link to a news story on why you think he should be impeached. This site needs to be inundated with impeachment diaries, so everytime you rec someone else's impeachment diary, make your own.
- Call your local representative: Politely tell them how you feel. It should be along the lines of "I just wanted to let you know I think that (insert representative name here) should think about impeaching the President because (insert one of the myriad of scandals/reasons i.e. warrantless wiretapping or refusal of subpoenas or whatever), and I know a lot of people who want the same thing as I do." Politicians are afraid of using the I-word because they believe only the "far left" is calling for it. Phone calls that they cannot quickly identify as coming from a liberal website can do much more damage than the most articulated, eloquent diary that shows up here or on places like MyDD.
- If you are a musician, journalist (in an op-ed), famous person, or anyone who has access to public air or especially radio formats, whether its MSNBC or local cable access, "I think we need to impeach our president" needs to be mentioned. Al Gore, by making a movie, made it OK to talk about Global Warming. Before that, he was labeled a tree-hugger. Michael Moore helped make it OK to talk about reasons why the war in Iraq was wrong. Before that, the myth of equating dissent of the war to not supporting the troops helped stymie such discussion. If you're a musician, write a song and play it for as many people as possible. Send it to record stations. Who knows, if its catchy, the mere fact that so many people want Bush impeached might propel you to stardom.
- Write letters and op-eds to your local newspapers, post (polite!) comments on news websites, make a YouTube clip, just do ANYTHING that will help you vent and let people know its OK to talk about the I-Word. We need to show politicians that people besides the "far left" are calling for impeachment, because they are too scared of being labeled the "get-back" or "take-revenge" Congress.
Here's where I would generally make my own case for the I-Word, but its been said so many times, with so many good reasons, that I'm just tired of explaining.
Let's do something about it instead. Let's stop pussyfooting around the I-Word and do something about impeaching this sorry excuse for a president.
