The Edwards Campaign for President is now completing its second quarter. It has been a very busy three months. This last week has been no exception. Tonight I am going to review the following highlights from the week:
- Elizabeth Edwards vs Ann Coulter - a selection of diaries
- Dailykos Straw Poll and after Debate polls
- Investing in the John Edwards Campaign
- Thank you for your Investment or Contribution to the Edwards Campaign!!!
1. Elizabeth Edwards vs Ann Coulter - a selection of diaries
Many diaries have been posted on the topic. Here are several that give you different perspectives.
Ultimately we applaud Elizabeth and John for speaking out against this type of hate-mongering.
a. One of the most delightful diaries was from Melody Townsel who wrote about her conversation with her seven year old daughter Sadie about Ann Coulter Hey, Ann. Even my SEVEN-YEAR-OLD gets it.
Wisdom from seven year old Sadie
"It's not sad, Mommy, it's rude. They're really rude. She's not even paying attention to what the woman on the phone is saying and she's just yelling."
"No, Mommy. I think Ann Coulter needs to lose privileges."
"Maybe they shouldn't let her be on TV."
There's a thought. From my seven-year-old's lips to the network executives' ears.
b. From TomP Coulter claims Elizabeth "browbeat" her; Ann Coulter calls Elizabeth a "Harridan"
When I heard that Coulter used the term harridan, I thought, Ann, you are teaching people the word that describes you.
Elizabeth is a steel magnolia - a gracious Southern lady - with a spine.
Ann Coulter is the harridan - a hag, a shrew, a vicious woman.
This is classic Freudian projection.
c. nyceve's Rant on Chris Matthews - Chris Matthews, have you no shame?
And any MSNBC executives who happen to read this (very unlikely, I know) you should understand, that though Mr. Matthews may bring in a few bucks for the network, he does nothing--zero, to either educate the American people about the dire state of our nation, or to raise the level of political discourse. Nothing.
d. Admiration from mannabass - Holy !$#%#!!! Did you see Edwards on Hardball?
The clip begins with the usual "this is what happened what do you think" intro. Then the real answers starts. Let me draw attention to a few things [John Edward's quote].
I think that when people like Ann Coulter -- and it's not just her, unfortunately, it's her and people just like her, Karl Rove and all those people. I mean, when they engage us in this kind of hatemongering, you have to stand up to them. You have to stand up to them. They start this fight, but we have to be willing to be strong and to fight back. Because if we don't, Chris, what happens is all the important things: men and women dying in Iraq, those who don't have health insurance, et cetera, their issues don't get heard. Instead, it's this -- it's this low-level dialogue with this name-calling, which is what we see.
Notice how he doesn't get caught in the Ann Coulter trap? This is about challenging the right wing hate frame, and pointing out how it's just a distraction anyway.
2. Dailykos Straw Poll and Debate Results
a. Dailykos Straw Poll Results for the top three: Edwards 40%, Obama 22% and Clinton 6%
Richardson's support on Dkos continutes to slide down. Other and No Feaking Clue went up.
Edwards support appears steady for the last three months.
b. Democratic Presidential Debate - hosted by Tavis Smiley on PBS
This debate format was probably the best we have seen so far. The short time
for answers still is problemantic. Nonetheless each candidate had a fair shot at answers
and Tavis Smiley did a great job of moderating. There was a poll before and after.
Obama had the most support before, but he lost support after the debate.
Edwards gained significant support after the debate. I would say that Edward won.
Here are a couple of diaries if you missed them.

3. Investing in the John Edwards Campaign
Songweasal writes about a Hot Investment Tip s/he got
I got this "tip" from a lady at the League of Women Voters Luncheon here in Orlando today. She said this, "Honey, you don't give money to political campaigns. You invest in a candidate. So just who are you investing in?" So I said...
I invest in the candidate who will lead my country's return to its rightful place as a moral, just, rational and dignified leader on the world stage.
I invest in the candidate who will lead my country to its rightful place as a leader in creating and utilizing the technologies that will ultimately save the environment of this beautiful little blue marble in space that we call home.
I invest in the candidate who will lead the return of dignity and standing to American workers who should earn a living wage and never fear losing the right to get together, if need be, and ask their bosses for better.
I invest in the candidate who has a vision of a future where no children, anywhere, in any country, are hungry or sick.
I invest in the candidate who has a vision of a not so distant future where all children will learn to read whatever they want and will talk and write freely about what they've learned.
I invest in leadership. I invest in vision.
I invest in John Edwards.
I really do think that our time and our money is being invested in the future of the country by supporting John Edwards.
4. Thank you for your Investment or Contribution to the Edwards Campaign!!!
We are almost there! I believe we will reach the goal of $9M for the second quarter before midnight.
