Today from Politico:
Mitt Romney recorded $300 in payments to a California company that describes itself as "a mobile beauty team for hair, makeup and men's grooming and spa services."
Is this PR heaven and sudden justice for Dems sick of the Edwards haircut story?
Glenn Greenwald doesn't think so. We love Glenn, but let's make sure, just this once, he's wrong.
The always trenchant, steadfastly smart Glenn Greenwald at Salon says this about the Pretty Mitty story:
The real issue here -- aside from the complete lack of journalistic standards at the Politico, which is old news by now -- is whether this trashy, worthless item will be given anywhere near the coverage and attention which the Politico's equally trashly, equally worthless Edwards item received.
(Emphasis added.)
Glenn thinks it won't get the same attention as Edwards' haircut, given the media's demonstrated bias toward feminizing Dems.
I say we prove Glenn wrong on this one. :)
We need to make sure this story gets spread far and wide. Megaphone it.
And let me say something about equivalence. Many Kossacks rightly deplore winger tactics, and often--again, rightly--say that we should not stoop to their level (e.g., glorying over death, bringing pols' kids into the mix, discussing sex lives and practices).
I generally agree with that principle. It's what makes us (often, but not always) better than them.
But the Pretty Mitty story is an exception, I think.
First, the story is true, and it does no harm to anyone but Mitt.
Second, it's the perfect retort to the Edwards story.
Third, the media does this crap so well already. All the structures and bad journalistic habits are in place. All we have to do is feed the beast.
So: Spread this story far and wide. And if someone can find some B-footage of Romney being made up before an interview, post it, link it, and maybe someone will find the perfect song to score it with (I hear "I Feel Pretty" is already taken).
Megaphone it, people: Pretty Mitty.
