Is there a more pathetic figure in the D.C. pundit set than Richard Cohen? Here is the sentence from today's WaPo that should be engraved on the man's tombstone:
You do not talk about your hairstylist like that.
Then we have the failed court jester routine:
Here, too, the issue is not what he paid his barber but his apparent willingness to trim the truth. He can't -- I can't stop myself -- brush that away.
Next time Cohen, stop yourself. (Cohen was the guy who thought Steven Colbert was too mean to poor George Bush. And that Colbert's sense of humor was not as acute as his own.)
Then he plays the investigative reporter, calling Edwards a liar while never actually uncovering a lie:
Contrast this detailed account of Edwards's relationship with Torrenueva with the candidate's initial explanation. Edwards said he had no idea that the haircuts were so expensive and --
and throw in a reference to Monica Lewinsky and ramble on stupidly to the end of the column.
You don't need to read the rest to realize we have the birth of a legend to rival Al Gore's earth tones and John Kerry's NASCAR comments. A lie that the moldering media elites can tell each other again and again over cocktails to help them feel better about voting Republican.
Oh, did I mention Cohen is supposed to be a liberal? You know, to "balance" out the likes of Charles Krauthammer.
Here you see the principal work ethic of the Washington Post editorial staff. Scramble around for false centrism and "balance" while GOP corruption and carnage consume your paper's front page daily.
