Wow. Just wow.
I'm self employed, and I do internet ecommerce and webhosting solutions. A client of several years called me today. She's a middle aged mom in California, raised Jewish but converted to Christianity in her teens.
We've talked sparingly on politics many times. She was a fan of James Dobson and the agenda of 'Focus on the Family' in those talks. I was amicable and softly supportive of her thoughts on those occasions. (you kinda have to be in business when you touch on religion and politics)
But then today arrived with a phone call.
She called because she needed my tech support for her website. We chatted for awhile on those issues and made small talk of things going on in our lives.
So I went out on ledge.
Me: "Did you vote yesterday in the California primary?"
Her: "Yes, OF COURSE!"
That was no surprise. So I pressed with the question,
Me: "Did you go with Ah-nold or Maria?"
and she paused for a couple seconds before saying,
Her: "I went with Maria."
I was stunned. Completely stunned. It took me a few seconds to process what she just had said before I could reply.
Me: "You voted for Obama???"
Her: "Yes! I Love him!"
My head was spinning. She's a mother of two young adults, and a grandmother recently, a Dobson supporter previously and deeply Christian oriented. Whaaaat? She voted for Obama?
After I could compose myself, I asked,
Me: "Obama? I thought you were a Dobson supporter?"
Her: "I haven't listened to Dobson in months."
Me: "Okay, but what about Hillary, as she is a woman?"
Her: "I can't stand Hillary. Never trusted her since back in the 90s when Bill was elected. She's one of the 'bad girls'. No way."
Then she had to go because she had a customer call. I'm waiting for her to call back so we can finish the discussion.
