WOID XVIII-40. Bullies in a China Shop
Gunslinger, gunslinger,
Where did you go wrong?
When you were a child did the Cheyenne and Sioux
Refuse to be nice and play games with you?
Did you always feel that you didn't belong?
[Words and Music by Katie Lee]
Something tells me the folks at InfraGard may get more than they bargained for. InfraGard being a project through which the FBI collaborates with the folks they really care about: the major corporations. That's right, the guys who brought you Enron are now armed and dangerous, not simply dangerous. The big corporations are getting secret information even before local governments, and they're deputized so that, in case of an emergency, they'll shoot to kill. (Sorry' bout that, boss: he reached for his gun and I thought it was a union card...)
So why would these guys decide to rent a hall and hold a meeting this Wednesday at the Hunter College Graduate School of Social Work in New York City? Do you suppose it's a secret cry for help? Stop me before I hurt someone?
Don't wear your guns in town tonight, my darling:
Last night you cried out 'Mommy dear!'
You've got a recurrent dream in your craw,
And a dream of your ma will inhibit your draw, my darling.
This has made students and faculty very unhappy. Students have asked Administration to cancel its contract with InfraGard and to establish criteria for renting space, based on "social justice, social work values, and democracy." What they haven't asked (but it bears asking), is the possible relationship between these guys and the College President, a Giuliani appointee. Could there be some unconscious association? Hmmm?
Gunslinger, gunslinger,
Please take my advice.
You know in your mind that you're plumb insecure,
And killin' a man is real immature:
It's just an attention-getting device,
Gunslinger!
