Here's a few photos from our caucus in Hana, Maui.
First, the basic numbers:
Approx. registered voters in precinct: 1100
Precinct Dem party membership prior to this evening: 81
Votes counted this evening: 145
Clinton: 20
Obama: 125
Follow me for some more pix...
Here's the gallery
First some general shots of the crowd that pretty much filled the Hana High and Elementary Cafeteria
The table in front is where folks were signing in or registering
This was a bit later after some folks had already voted and left
The piles of blue forms are the new Dem party registrations
Counting the votes (supporters of both candidates helped count)
The big pile in the middle are the Obama votes
Precinct president Ward Mardfin announcing the results
Ward calling in the votes to the state HQ
Ballot envelop with final results (see the little "20" written on the top label? that's the number of ballots they were originally given!)
Update: Okay, since I have your attention (mahalo to everyone who recommended and Meteor Blades for the front page link!), for everyone still up at this hour, here's a bonus photo. This is from the farm that I work for in Haleakala National Park.
May seem o/t, but in a way this photo captures more than anything else why I voted for Barack Obama tonight. There is nothing more Hawaiian than kalo or taro, the plant which Hawaiians consider their older brother. The keiki kalo, and the keiki kanaka. The future. Hope sprouting anew.
