So I choose to take a break from all the Obama mania sweeping around here and talk about something almost everybody agrees is elitist, an Apple product.
Why ? Well people have have just thought about it that way for years. They are made for the hippies, the liberals etc., but the truth is that is used by most media companies, even RushRush Limbaugh, go figure.
What Apple Products do I own ?
I have a airport express with a 500 GB HD, a Time-capsule, a macbook and a 17In iMac to go with the 3 iPhones in the family, a 80 GB iPod, a 8 GB iPOD nano and a 160 GB Classic.
Why do I like Apple products ?
They just work !!! Way underrated in my opinion I think. My laptop boots up in like 30 sec or less since the day I bought it, the software is miles over anything I have had in the Windows world, innovative and different but easy to learn and use. No anti-virus software to install, very few Trojans and a pleasure to use.
Do I mind paying extra for that that ?
There is a misconception that Apple products cost more then the competition but the truth of the matter is if you are comparing apples to apples sometimes the Apple prices are a lot less then the others. The Windows market confuses you with rock bottom prices with outdated specs and price breaks and features that might appeal to your geek side but do not make you productive or useful. Ex: Macbook Air v/s Eepc. $1800 v/s $400.
The unsaid things, or things that you figured you would never use
The software that was already available on the the iMac, ready to use. iPhoto, iMovie, Time-machine for backups etc that are more afterthoughts when buy a Windows machine. It is worth hundreds of $s for all the cool software that comes preloaded. I have something Comic preloaded, where I can create comic books and my 10 year daughter just loves it and uses it to create comic books. Our whole family have created slideshows, movies and my sweet little 10 year old comic-books that I pretend are funny.
My life and how Apple fits into it ?
I am a consultant and all of my money comes from the windows world. That's why I own a Mac with both VMWare and Parallels virtualization software which allows me to run the OS X leopard and Windows XP all at the same time.
My honest no geek opinion is that the Mac is a lot better for most people because it just works and is simple and there are less maintenance problems with it. The Apple products just rock not because they are appreciated by geeks with feature requirements but by common people who appreciate the simplicity and use of the devices. I apologize because I am a geek but the truth is that features are a waste of time if you do not use them but are more of talking points. I use my iPhone to the fullest, I love it and would not see life without it. I also use other Apple products and see it the same way. But to each of our own, do yourself a favor and buy an Apple product and use it, You are going to love how much they really care about your experience.
