So, right now, on the front page, the guy who put the Kos in Daily Kos is highlighting (quite literally) the color of John McCain's teeth and describing it as "gross".
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but... really?
That's how we want to play this one?
Look, discussing John McCain's age in the context of his stamina and his mental acuity seems reasonable, but the reality of it is... should we be LUCKY... we're all going to get old and we're all going to lose our hair and our skin is going to sag and our gums are going to recede and yes... our teeth will yellow noticably.
So fucking what?
John McCain's lack of being young and hot is NOT in the top thousand reasons he'd make a terrible President in the same way that Barack Obama's BLACKNESS should not be used as a justification by the troglodytes and homunculus to oppose HIM.
The above are simple facts of life.
Some people have physical challenges.
Some people are heterosexual.
Some people tall.
Some people have darker skin than others.
And some people are old.
That John McCain has managed to live a long life should be one of the few things that we can congratulate the Senator from Arizona on, especially considering there isn't a single POLICY ARENA that we Progressives (or most of the American people) agree with him on.
One might suggest in defense that the "teeth coloring" post was as much about the lack of savvy of those running John McCain's website, but the "gross" comment was clearly about McCain himself and not about his people's lack of using a photoshop prophylactic.
It's also bad politics, by the way.
One of the few out of touch, tin-ear moments that Senator Obama had in this campaign was when he APPEARED to be taking a personal shot at Senator Clinton with the whole, "You're likeable enough, Hillary," debate comment.
It was an attempt at humor, but it just came across as mean-spirited and unnecessary.
In a world in which most of the voting public knows people with yellow teeth (and likely loves some people with yellow teeth) we should endeavor to try and tear John McCain down on what he says and what he believes not on traits that we'll all one day emulate.
