As everyone here noticed yesterday, Kossack cartwrightdale made an amazing video that showed in very graphic terms exactly why a McCain presidency would be exactly like a third Bush term.
Of course a video like that is popular at a site like this one, but it's beginning to get a lot of attention at a much bigger site: YouTube.
"Approval Ratings: The Public v. McCain" already has over 100,000 views, and it's number one on YouTube's "Rising Videos."
Further evidence (and what you can do to help foster the popularity) below the fold.
[Update 11:34 AM PDT]: It's happening, Kossacks! In the comments below, Magster notes that "Approval Ratings" has gotten onto the Most Viewed page at YouTube. Now let's move it up the chart!
As I said yesterday, there is a strange phenomenon in popular music: people are more likely to like a song if they know it's popular.
Similarly, people are more likely to approve of a movie if they know it's popularity.
Maybe it doesn't speak well of the general population--we seem to be a bit sheeplike in our preferences--but we can take advantage of this quirk to get this video even more attention.
The most popular page at YouTube is the Most Viewed page, and the videos here get more popular simply by virtue of being listed on this page.
Yesterday, thanks to some high profile diaries here, cartwrightdale's video got over 100,000 views. If you look on YouTube's page of Rising Videos, "Approval Ratings" is the number one listing! That means that this video is getting a TON of attention.
Moreover, on YouTube's Top Rated page, "Approval Ratings" is number six. It's not the highest, but it's still "above the fold" territory.
But these are small potatoes compared to the Most Viewed page. This is the popular page, and it's the place where viral videos become viral. As I write this right now, this video is ONE SPOT away from being on this page--it's on the second page of most viewed videos. We're very close!
So do what you can to promote this video! Watch it. Have your friends watch it. But most importantly: e-mail it, twitter it, digg it, and get the word out.
This is an excellent piece of grassroots media. It has an amazing message and great potential -- if only we can help it reach the tipping point.
