This was one of my friend's Facebook notes.
Just think how great a professional of any kind you could be with only 143 days of experience!!! People want change so bad maybe we should lower the experience requirement for Doctors, Lawyers, Airline pilots.. Etc. This would cause some change!
I'm quite confident that we will be hearing many more such stories before this is over........
Obama's 143 Days of Senate Experience. Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate.
That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.
The one single Senate committee that he headed, never even met once.
After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief , Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.
Think about it.......143 days -- 20.4 weeks -- 4.7 months
Children spend more time in pre-school getting ready for kindergarten.
I think this is a viral email, actually. This friend of mine writes better than this.
My response:
This is cute, because you mention past presidents who history has deemed "great," even though they had next to none of the "experience" that you demand of Barack Obama. Obama has been a Senator since early 2005.
Abraham Lincoln was elected to the Senate in 1858, and won the election of 1860 to become president.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected the Governor of New York in 1928, and became president in 1932.
History has looked kindly on John F. Kennedy, but Obama has been a Senator longer than JFK was president, just to put things into perspective.
Ronald Reagan was governor of California for quite awhile before taking office, but that experience didn't stop him from quadrupling the national debt. And no, contrary to popular belief, Ronald Reagan wasn't responsible for the end of Communism.
Regardless, you can't define Barack Obama's experience by just his work in the US Senate. It isn't like Obama hasn't been involved with politics and government since before 2004. Before he became a Senator, he served in the Illinois state legislature while teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago for over a decade. Knowing constitutional law will certainly make him a better president than our last one, who has had a constant disregard for the document. Experience at the national level isn't a requirement for office. What is needed is a president who will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Anyways, here's a article listing Barack Obama's accomplishments as a US Senator: http://en.wikipedia.org/...
Also, Barack Obama is better at his current job than John McCain. McCain has missed nearly two thirds of the votes in the 110th Congress. While you might point out that this is because of his running for President, Obama has managed to show up for twenty percent more of his votes. http://projects.washingtonpost.com/...
Have a nice day!
