My girlfriend and I were talking earlier tonight, and she pointed out something that I found really very interesting. This continues a line of logic that I previously reviewed- the question of "What if life did actually begin at birth?"
In that post, I temporarily accepted the logic that killing a fetus was on par with killing a baby, and asked you to consider the horribly flawed logic in making exceptions for killing fetuses. You wouldn't make an exception for killing born babies, would you?
But let's put that aside for now. Enough dirt has been kicked up about it. Let's talk about how life-at-conception could actually make some Americans unamerican.
Nine months before you were born, where were your parents? No, no, I don't mean to ask on which piece of furniture. I mean - in which country.
If they were on vacation in France, then I dare say my friend, you just may be French. I've heard Spain is a nice place to have a honey moon, have you? I can't imagine a better time to begin a good wholesome American family - except that your child might then be be Spanish.
The waters get murkier. What about the illegal immigrants who may or may not have conceived here in the U.S.? Can you prove that they didn't? How could you possibly know who really is American?
Okay, okay, you're right. That would never happen, because that would never work. I guess sometimes you've just got to draw the line somewhere, be it at birth, or a certain term of pregnancy, don't you?
Wait, that sounds familiar. Isn't that how we've defined the beginning of life?
