Have you phonebanked for Obama yet?
Now is the time. He really needs every last vote to pull this off.
Hate talking on the phone??? ME TOO. But I've done it. I PROMISE, it gets easier. And some of the people you talk to are so nice. Most are polite. The few that are rude end the call quickly anyway.
You have nothing to fear. They can't see you. They don't know or care who you are. But you can have an ENORMOUS impact on the campaign by calling people.
There are a couple of ways to do this:
- From home. If you haven't already, sign up at www.barackobama.com. Click "Make calls" and you'll be given names, phone numbers, and a SCRIPT. Look over it - say it outloud a couple of times before you make the first call. Don't be worried that you sound timid, or that you'll 'lose' Obama a vote. You won't. But you might win him one.
- From a local phonebank. Every state, every major city area, and many other areas have phonebanks happening. You walk in, and someone will talk you through all of it. You'll get a script, you can listen to the calls of others to help you gain courage.
UPDATE #2: Here's a link to call voters near you: http://my.barackobama.com/...
SERIOUSLY. SCREW YOUR COURAGE TO THE STICKING PLACE and join a phonebank today.
You should also search the "Groups" on the Obama site under your city name to find other local supporters. I'm on about six Los Angeles lists, so I get all the phonebank info.
ALSO. If you can deal with talking to people in person - if your state is a swing state, or near a swing state, local groups are going out and knocking on doors, ID'ing voters (finding out who their preference is, if they'll share, and most will), and spreading visibility for the campaign.
If you really can't leave the computer, at least PLEASE spread the word beyond DK. Go to a few sites you wouldn't normally go to and leave some positive comment re Obama. If we all stay here talking to each other, we're not doing our job!
UPDATE: Your local Obama office also needs help with data entry. All the great info from the call sheets and walking lists needs to be entered into the system. Now I KNOW you're all computer literate or you wouldn't be here, so please consider that as an option too!
