If you are in North Carolina and want to get off your butts in a state that is much closer than some polls have shown lately, go Saturday (September 13) to a Carolina Cookout for Change.
If you need an example of just what we fight here in Carteret County, and want to get pissed off enough to actually show up and support the Obama campaign, take a look at some recent editorial excerpts from our local Carteret County News Times:
(September 10, 2008) You need to face your enemy to defeat them. John McCain will face this threat and lead us on to victory."
At our peril, dozing liberals would sabotage America.
Or how about:
(June 15, 2008)"There are people in this world who believe America is a force for evil in the world. They’re called Europeans," said Michael Graham in the Boston Herald recently.
"Then there are people who feel the same way, but who will help elect the next president of the United States. They’re called Obama supporters," he said.
Depending on whether you’re an Obama supporter, you may or may not find that funny, but it’s true.
Telling his Cambridge friends to calm down, Mr. Graham said he wasn’t saying Sen. Obama hates America, "but even his most ardent supporters must admit — when they aren’t fainting away at his campaign appearances — that there is a direct and disturbing correlation between hating America and loving Barack."
Are you pissed off yet?
This is the part where we show up and mean it. Yelling at clouds hasn't been very effective, so how about attending a Cookout for Change on Saturday and add one more voice to the push to elect Senators Obama and Biden and deny Mr. McCain and Mrs. Palin the power to implement world views very much in line with the above CCNT editorials.
Lots of Cookouts are planned, including in many small communities. Here in Eastern NC, Crystal Coast area, there are events in Morehead City (Train Depot: 2pm) and Pine Knoll Shores (Marina 5pm). Anyone who lives here knows this is a very red area of our state, but there are lots of people here who are starting to fight back. In just the last couple of months, I've run into a few unexpected Obama supporters and am looking forward to meeting a few more at both Cookouts tomorrow.
Update: Check out this diary from FleetAdmiralJ showing a 3 point race according to Gallup.
