Note 1: I forgot my camera so no pictures of the 100+ excited supporters in Holland, MI :-(
Note 2: It's my grandmother's 91st birthday, so I'm only going to be around to check this diary for the next couple of hours.

In the pouring rain, in a county which has never gone Democratic, the field offices of the Democratic Party are hopping with activity.
This morning at the grand opening of the Holland office of the Second Congressional District, there were...
Debbie Stabenow (more later)
Representatives from the Fred Johnson campaign to unseat Pete Hoekstra
A Campaign for Change staffer
Paolo our Ottawa County Obama Campaing staffer
Lots of food
Lots of excited Democrats of all ages
A three piece jazz band
Debbie Stabenow was the main event of the grand opening in Holland. All four of the field offices in the second congressional district (currently served by Pete Hoekstra - ugh) are 'opening' today and she is visiting three of them.
Debbie has worked in the senate with Obama, Biden, and McCain and can clearly articulate how well the work she champions in terms of helping people who "make things and grow things" are supported by Obama and Biden, and how McCain rejects these bills.
She specifically mentioned the farm bill which added fruit and vegetable growers for the first time and great lakes legislation.
She mentioned that those of us who live in Michigan have the lakes in our DNA, we know how important clean water, lake levels, and shipping are to our economy. Barak is from Chicago, he also is from the great lakes and supports this legislation too.
McCain is from Arizona, and they just want our water.
Debbie mentioned the great work that Barak and Joe have done with equal pay and minimum wage legislation and the antagonism that John McCain has against women in terms both these bills.
From the chatter, it looks like there is a great out swelling of support for phone banking, canvassing, voter registration, and other volunteers in our area. The campaign in our county is separated into six areas and people were volunteering for each of them.
Canvassing today is likely to be canceled due to the rain, but they will be phone banking.
Next week I am scheduled to go on my second canvass in the area.
So far, the Obama signs far outnumber the McCain signs in Holland. Hopefully it will stay that way and we might be the change that we are looking for.
Peace
