SO here I am sitting at a HleathCare debate between A McCain senior Health law advisor and an avid Obama supporter. The Obama supporting woman gave a wonderfull little powerpoint highlighting the terrible shape our healthcare system and the economics of it all.
The McCain woman has given a little speech on the McCain campaigns position. She let this little one slide..
"I just want to clear something up. The SCHIP vote was because of tobacco. The way to pay for SCHIP was by putting a tax on cigarettes or tobacco, and McCain voted against the bill because he didn't want to encourage more people to smoke. Obama voted for it." - Heide Bajnrauh- Senior Adviser to Jo hn McCain (This quote should not be taken as verbatim, will try and find a pod cast later on)
I think I felt a brain cell scream in pain and death as this line escaped. Now, I am paraphrasing, it is my hope that this is podcasted and I can forward it along.
But, as this young woman said at the begining, everything has to be written down and approved (in reference to her speech). So I can only assume that this line of reasoning has met the approval of the campaign.
Let me summarize the jist of this line
- SCHIP was bad because it taxed Cigarettes.
- Taxing Cigarettes encourages people to smoke.
- McCain voted against encouraging smoking, not against SCHIP
- Obama voted for smoking not for SCHIP.
I am starting to get lost in the gaffes this campaign is making.
And on one final point. Her big harping point at the begining was that the Obama plan will cost 400 some odd billion, in a very "tisk-tisk" tone. Of course my mind switched quickly to the current bailout proposal and other various expenditures.
Don't bankrupt us and we could afford that.
