Hello Everyone.
This is my first diary, so be kind. I've gone back and forth on what my first diary would be about. In the wake of Sarah Palin's nomination and her staunch opposition to any sex education or birth control, I thought at first to write something about my own personal experience as an unwanted and unplanned pregnancy and how that affected me throughout my life.
And in the wake of the AP story about the Stamford survey regarding the "racist views" of 30% of the Democratic electorate, I thought about writing about my experience as a white woman living in low-income black neighborhoods in NYC and how, good golly, I've never been raped or robbed or threatened in any way, and how I see what fifty years of systemic racism has done to a proud, creative, and amazingly resilient people on a daily basis.
But after viewing this, I decided to write about something bigger than myself.
Thank you, Steve Clemons at the Huffington Post, for reminding us that this race isn't just about US. It's about the whole world.
And yes, I cried.
I hope this entry is long enough for the Diary guidelines. I'm sure there will be those who will be happy to correct and guide me.
