I am pissed off. And I am most angry with those who voted "Nay" today. Most of what I would like to say to you, I would not print. So I’ll just say this, if you don’t like the current bailout bill, then write one you do like. Don’t sit there and play "find my vote" with those who are trying to figure out how to rescue us from this credit and market meltdown. I don’t want to hear about the things that you think need to be included. I don’t want to hear about the things that shouldn’t be included. I want you to do your JOB. Don’t pass the buck.
Stop worrying about whether your version of the bill will hurt your chances for re-election. STFU about why you voted against the bill and WRITE YOUR OWN DAMN BILL. I will decide whether or not I like it. If you think your bill is good. If you think it has the safeguards you say you want for us, then you can work to get other members of Congress to support it. If you can’t do this, then you don’t deserve to represent your constituents and you should be voted out of office.
This situation does remind me of the disastrous vote to authorize President Bush to wage war with Iraq. All of the people who were members of Congress then, with few exceptions, had neither the courage nor the moral scruples to stand up and propose an alternative. I am here to tell you that you won’t get away with it this time. You need to understand that I don’t want to hear why you don’t like the current bill; I want to hear a specific alternative. If you can’t be bothered to represent the people of this country effectively by writing an alternative bill, then you need to STFU, and support the current one. If you don’t have the expertise or the courage to write an appropriate alternative, then STFU and get behind someone who does.
I don’t want to hear how the Republicans got their feelings hurt because Speaker Pelosi gave a partisan speech. I don’t want to hear liberal Democrats espouse a bill that they know can’t pass both houses just to pander to liberal constituencies. Now is the time for our representatives to stand up for all of us and figure this out. You asked for our votes. You asked for our money. You need to get on the job. So I repeat, don’t play "find my vote" and sit back and wait for someone to come up with a solution you like. Write your own damn bill or STFU.
I am sick of reading the posts by elected Representatives or by someone writing on their behalf that explain why they voted against the bill. I want to see one that proposes an alternative bill and I want to see the text. If you would spend your time writing an alternative bill instead of explaining all the reasons why you don’t support the current bill, then maybe you could get something done. The Dow Jones was down by 777 points. Where will it be tomorrow while you are still explaining why you don’t support the current bill? If the economy crashes into another Great Depression, I don’t suppose you think it will hurt you very much. Perhaps, you think we have time to play "find my vote". But what if we don’t? Will you then be spending time explaining why you didn’t think your failure to act would damage us? Will you apologize as so many of you have done over your Iraq war vote? You have to take responsibility for this and you need to do it now. So get off your collective, rich, cowardly, do-nothing asses and do your job. Either pass the current bill or write another one and get the votes necessary to pass it. Stop blaming each other. Stop blaming Wall Street. STFU and get to work!!!
