Here's something I hope Senator Obama will highlight in tonight's debate.
There is an excelletn ABC news article up at http://abcnews.go.com/...
Essentially, during her 6 years on the Walmart board (1986-1992), Clinton failed to make ANY attempts to stop Walmart's wholesale attacks on Unions.
Here is the money quotge:
A former board member told ABCNews.com that he had no recollection of Clinton defending unions during more than 20 board meetings held in private.
The tapes show Clinton in the role of a loyal company woman. "I'm always proud of Wal-Mart and what we do and the way we do it better than anybody else," she said at a June 1990 stockholders meeting.
And yet unions continue to endorse her. When she had a chance to do something to protect union organizing at what became the world's largest company, she did nothing.
Of course, now Hillary says, through a spokesperson
[ . . . ] Clinton strongly believes Wal-Mart workers should be able to unionize and bargain collectively.
Why didn't she do ANYTHING to bring that about while she was on the Walmart board?
Furthermore, she has taken, and refused to return, a $20,0000 donation from Walmart executives and lobbyists.
Hopefully, Senator Obama will take up this issue and run with it!
