The Senate just finished passing the bailout/rescue bill 74-25. Obama and McCain both voted in favor. The only Democratic opposition I noted was Feingold and Cantwell.
UPDATE: tazz and others have noted that Tester voted against.
I personally don't know whether this will turn out being a good thing or a bad thing. I'm happy to the Senate include some long overdue tax relief for middle class families and those in the alternative energy industries. On the other hand the idea of raising our debt another 3/4 trillion is nauseating, regardless of whether it works, and even more so if it fails.
I'm not quite sure how they plan to get this through the House. I have basically no confidence in the Democratic leadership's ability to stand up for the few incentives progressives were given, nor do I see them implementing the necessary regulation anytime in the near future.
This is a sad day for the Working Class. While some will certainly find some temporary relief from the effects of this bill, in the end we'll all pay dearly for the excess of our leadership and their financiers.
