Every decent person must repudiate the use of invective that incites anger, violence and racial hatred, especially in electoral politics. Any politician that uses their platform to incite evil and violence unleashes forces that are not easily stopped.
Something that is profoundly troubling is the way the McCain/ Palin camp are stoking hate, racism, and anger in their personal attacks against Obama. The calls of "kill him", "off with his head" and "terrorist" have been incited by their rhetoric and not denounced. This is dangerous and borders on inciting to violence.
Anyone who has studied history has seen evil forces goaded into action by selfish politicians. Such actions have caused assassinations and civil wars and caused irreparable harm or even destroyed the societies in which they have occurred.
Previous personal attacks and accusations by the Republican party of John McCains black baby and attacks on John Kerry's valiant military service although low and depraved, never were as violence inspiring or as evil. To goad ones supporters to anger and violence and to incite racial hatred isn't an electoral strategy, it’s a recipe for civil war and violence.
Perhaps some can continue to support this team and this strategy, but I would hope all decent people would repudiate it. We can not allow our elections to devolve into mob violence.
