In the 2nd presidential debate last week, a question of fundamental importance was asked: is healthcare care a right, a responsibility, or a privilege?
Well I looked up the three words in the dictionary and here they are:
Right: That which is just, morally good, legal, proper, or fitting.
Responsibility: Something for which one is responsible; a duty, obligation, or burden.
Privilege: A special advantage, immunity, permission, right, or benefit granted to or enjoyed by an individual, class, or caste.
In my humble opinion, healthcare, as a touch tone of our value and priority, encompasses all three aspects. Simply said, healthcare is a right because it is a moral imperative, a responsibility because it is only practical if each participant take up shared responsibility, a privilege because almost half the world — over three billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.
BTW, the US military spending for 2008 is $711 billion. If just divided among the world's 6 billion people, it is almost $120 per person. There could be a much better way of achieving peace and security, maybe even good prosperity, in this world...
Furthermore healthcare is one and the top priority. 8 years are not only wasted by the current regime but much worse if you count the opportunities squandered. We need to hold the next administration to the task and deliver.
The country is in crisis and the world is in peril. Painful as this down turn is, if united we stand, there is a greater America rising on the horizon. Once the dirty rotten scoundrels are eliminated, there will be sacrifices called upon, and collectively we all should be. It is time, now or never, to come together to take on the challenges we face and create new opportunities for our future. The best days is still ahead, if we vote now and act more!
