Every so often in Florida, a red tide appears...
Sucking out all the oxygen and leaving our most beautiful treasures trashed and foul smelling; rotting carcasses from once life-filled waters decay in the sun. The simple act of breathing turns into a coughing fit; and your eyes tear up uncontrollably. It is not our natural state.
But this curse always shifts, and the winds of Change blow in. The bold, beautiful blue of the Gulf and Atlantic that lovingly embraces our state always returns. It is what we all cherish most about life down here.
The heart of Florida is Blue, not Red, and we will soon be able to breath easy as the air and waters return to normal. There is a reason for this shift, and I have to recognize all of them – a huge, hearty Thank You! to all the Sunshine State’s hardworking volunteers for ridding us of the toxic tide, and returning to us our true colors - that the world will see fill the southern tip of our nation on November 4th.
