Not what I expected this election. I expected "We're really liberals" campaign literature in the 2016 election season; possibly as early as the 2012 election. But certainly not THIS election.
On the front, promises to: "Increase funding for stem cell research" "Address climate change" "Fight wasteful spending". The first two are liberal concerns. The third is nonpartisan; DFL (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) local and state candidates in Minneapolis tend to call themselves "social progressive and fiscal conservative." (Republicans go for "social moderate and fiscal conservative.")
"Hypocrisy is the tribute that vice pays to virtue."
I don't expect them to mean what they say. But some of their most vocal supporters consider global warming a hoax, and others see stem cell research as murder.
Inside: "John McCain and Sarah Palin will work with Democrats and Republicans for sensible solutions to the problems facing American families." Palin is the mother of "a special needs child," which is why she and McCain will champion stem cell research.
"In the Senate, John McCain has worked with Democrats and Republicans on climate change. As Governor, Sarah Palin went after big oil companies and won."
On the back, it's all Palin. Part of a USA Today story (9/12/08) is reproduced. "As governor, she has aligned with Democrats to tax the oil industry." "She didn't press conservative views to state lawmakers."
One would almost think the Republican National Committee didn't expect the Permanent Republican Majority to last.
