Not until tonight did I see John McCain as someone who is truly a snob. Maybe I am slow to the party, but I am finally there. Each debate McCain has come out with a different formula to take it to Obama. Tonight he focused on Big Government while at the same time suggesting an array of his own big programs. McCain exhibited his usual rigidness and unease. In fact, he seemed like he was going to crawl out of his skin when he brought Ayers to the forefront. But, McCain seemed to feel most comfortable talking about Joe and his business. During a time in which small businesses are hurting under a down economy, John McCain seemed most elated welcoming Joe into the rich persons club. "Congratulations Joe, you are rich" You are one of us.
Why did John McCain go out of his way to congratulate Joe? Why did McCain find that being rich deserved a special high praise during his Presidential debate? Is human worth only measured in terms of wealth and dollars in McCain's world? What about that nurse who works the night shift? Doesn't she deserve to be congratulated too?
The reason that McCain loss in my opinion was not only because of his failed policy initiatives, but because Americans were reminded of who John McCain truly respects and will fight for. Joe who is rich. Yes, after all the arguments about small businesses, John McCain told on himself tonight. Joe is rich. Joe presumably is purchasing a million dollar business based on its earnings potential. And, John McCain's interest in Joe is not that he is a struggling small business owner.
No, Congradulations Joe, you are rich.
So, in just a short span of time, one sentence likely sealed the election for good. It was when McCain felt pleased to welcome Joe, but gave no welcoming ceremony for someone who is not rich, someone like me.
