As I've blogged before..I live in a red state. I live in one of the most traditionally red states and one that has become an unexpected battleground state; Indiana.
Now granted I live in a pretty "blue" town but still I was born and raised in this state. I've lived in the north, central and southern parts of the state. I know how most Hoosiers are about politics.
This is why when I began to plaster the back of my small sedan with bumper stickers I grew nervous. I was waiting for the day when my "COEXIST," "Jesus was a Pacifist," "STOP this Endless War," "Obama 08" etc would generate at the very least a comment or at the most damage to my car.
Today was that day.
Thursday's are typically staff meeting days for me. As usual I was running just this side of "late" as I pulled into the swiftly populating parking garage.
My driver's side door was nearly taken off as a big white truck came barreling into the spot just beside me. I sighed but didn't curse. It's a hazard on a busy morning in that garage. I was thankful the person at least parked between the lines giving me enough room to get OUT of my car.
Anyway, after exiting my car I darted around the other side so I could grab my laptop and purse from the passenger side. That's when I was stopped.
"Hey!" A woman shouted from behind me. I turned around. It was another white middle-aged woman like myself (only she was blonde and a lot thinner). She was also the driver of the white truck.
"I like your bumper sticker!" She said.
I blinked. All my brain could think of was "which one?"
"The left has never been so right!" She continued. "My husband and I have always voted Republican in the past but we're voting Obama this year. I told him just last night I guess that makes Obama 'Right'."
She laughed. I laughed and told her "Thanks". She then took the stairs to head to work. I took the elevator.
It was the start of a great day!

PS: I go for a walk on break and come back to being on the rec list! Anyway, I wanted to say thank you for that and most of all thank you for sharing your stories; the good and the bad. Sharing builds community. It's community that brings us together, it's community that makes us strong, and it's community which will help us change direction in this country. :)
