The recent revelations about Palin's wordrobe costs are damaging for two reasons:
- Her shopping spree makes it look as if she is treating the campaign like a beauty pageant, and the position of the vice-president like that of a Miss Alaska runner-up. This is a stereotype she should be anxious to avoid, and there she is playing right into it!
Of course, the make-over was probably not her idea. Hardly anything is. That said, I think $150,000 is a bit excessive for a make-over. This is not your average $400 haircut. Which brings me to the second point:
- It sure seems she is shopping for herself and her family on the RNC budget. She spent about $200 at a baby store- one could hardly make a case that baby Trigg's designer romper will tip the election in the RNC's favor. Her liberal use of funds is a much bigger problem in light of recent revelations about her practices as a governor in Alaska: billing the state for per diem while working from home and for her children's travel expenses whenever they accompanied her on official business, even if they were not specifically invited to attend events with her.
So, no, this is not your typical example of media sexism. It is a character issue and should be discussed.

PS. It'a also fun. Take my poll: Which Palin purchase will make a plumber vote republican?
