I suspect this is better in an open thread, but to get the kind of help I need I'd have to sit by the computer waiting for an Open Thread to post and then pounce, hoping to be one of the early commentators. And I don't think I can do that today, and really want to get some facts and links to reply to a pretty wide distribution list.
I received a link to this article Obamanomics from a friend, sent to a pretty sizeable distribution list.
The article starts out:
Obama's economic plan is a recipe for long-lasting disaster. Keep in mind that wrecking anything, as opposed to building things, requires very little time and effort. Obama's plan is deceptively attractive, while in reality it is a huge wrecking ball that will capsize the already listing ship of our economy. Here is a partial list of reasons why. Judge for yourself.
Obama is proposing a trillion dollars in new spending. Where is he going to get the money, given the government's present huge budget deficit? From the filthy rich and blood-sucking corporations, that's where, he says. A terrific vote-getting scheme. But will it work?
The article is also published on the author's website, with the title Obamanomics: Obama’s Voodoo Economics.
What concerns me most is that the person who sent it to me has (after much discussion) finally told me that he's reluctantly voting for Obama. But when he told me he was, he said "I don't care about his middle name or that racist cr*p, I just don't think he has the experience." I didn't even realize he was FOR Obama until someone else asked him specifically.
I have pointed out over and over that "experience" doesn't mean "good experience" and certainly not "good judgment". This friend is clearly teetering on the edge. He also happens to be an extremely charismatic, outspoken, charming, very funny loudmouth with the biggest circle of friends I've seen. I feel like he could influence a lot of people one way or the other. He's an extremely successful contractor and the economy is his driving decider.
Did I mention that he lives in PENNSYLVANIA??? We can't lose a vote here.
I'm looking for very objective rebuttals. I don't want to reply with any partisan site that - to him - could lack credibility. Links to quotes from the economists who support Obama, or articles from sources that will be viewed as more objective are much appreciated. I'll definitely do some digging on my own as well; I'm not posting this to take the easy route but because of the incredible wealth of knowledge here.
Thank you.
