CNN is reporting that Sarah Palin is interested in "leading the Republican party" after a loss on Tuesday. Whoops...
Caribou Barbie is the gift that keeps on given. Dana Bash says that a GOP source that heard her read the quote was "speechless." Not being received well inside the McCain campaign.

OK - I literally threw this up there because I'm at a conference, in my hotel room, and was on my computer when CNN broke the story.
Basically, it is considered sacrilege for a member of a Presidential ticket to even discuss the possibility of a future run (after all, you're supposed to believe you're going to win the election at hand). Clearly, Palin doesn't.
The money quote: "I'm not doing this for naught." Does this mean that she's only running for VP, knowing she was going to lose this race, but positioning herself for the future?
Hmmm...
(Update x2) Here's the quote in context (thanks, Peraspera):
VARGAS: But the point being that you haven't been so bruised by some of the double standard, the sexism on the campaign trail, to say, "I've had it. I'm going back to Alaska."
PALIN: Absolutely not. I think that, if I were to give up and wave a white flag of surrender against some of the political shots that we've taken, that ... that would ... bring this whole ... I'm not doin' this for naught.
OK, let's let the top diary on this do the talking... Can we unrec please, with a nod to Rena for keeping this going while I go to work! It's an important story, and one I'm sure we'll hear about for several days. Thx...
(Update x3) It occurs to me that the McCain campaign was actually having (for them) a decent 48 hours of press, given news of tightening poll numbers, and even a story or two on supposed pro-Obama "bias" in the press. But, that's now toast - and it didn't even take Barack's half hour of prime time TV to do it!
