It has been a rough month for the neo-cons. Things were bad enough before but then the house of cards started to collapse. De-regulation’s effects are proving to be the unraveling of their insatiable greed, exposing them before the nation and opening them to the retributive fury of wronged citizens.
While they cry out against government involvement, regardless how minimal, they were quick on the trigger to demand government welfare when their institutions – the banks, brokerages, insurance houses, etc. – began to fail. And the people cried out against them, unwilling to save their institutions even though it might mean further hardship of the rest of us.

Facing rebellion, there is little left to do than try desperately to change the subject. And so they have. There is an ominous fury in the air as the election approaches, a panic bred of the knowledge that their world is soon to be upended and a new order established.
Despite the fact that the new order will do little more than take us back to the relative status of the turn of the century, it will mean that those who have used the past few years to hoard the wealth of the nation will no longer be able to do so as easily.
Over the past few days, riding around our small city, I’ve begun to see hand written signs in rear windows of cars screaming NOBAMA, accusing Obama of any and all of the slurs we’ve seen to date, and adding a new slogan or two to the mix.
But today while driving along Florida’s Highway A1A in Flagler Beach, I came upon a car parked along the road with a large sign tied to the back. Here it is:
This is really desperation. At first, I thought I’d just have fun with it, posting it with a caption such as: "Evidence of early onset Alzheimer’s disease." But I’m not sure just making fun of it is what we need to do. Rather, it is probably worth having a discussion about what the implications of such intense and rabid fervor might mean when Obama prevails.
