Yes, John McCain has unleashed his pitbull and it looks as if it's going to backfire on him.
We all know that Sarah Palin has been designated the one to attack Barack Obama because the McCain-Palin campaign have nothing left.
Even McSame has opened his mouth to insert foot.
Well in the mainstream media and, in the AP of all places, it may be backfiring. You seem, Johnny Boy's own questionable ties are coming back to haunt him and it's not just the Keating Five.
The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.
The council's founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Singlaub said McCain was a supporter but not an active member in the group.
See there's a key word in the above passage - NAZI. Bad word that Nazi thingy. It conjures all sorts of images. We shall not go into the gory, perverse and inhuman details. But I suspect that a certain group of voters in the swing state of Florida won't be enamored of the association.
What is the Iran-Contra Affair? Here you go:
Iran-Contra affair (1985-92), a rare non-venal political scandal in which high officials of the Reagan administration were discovered to have used funds raised by covert arms sales through Israel to Iran in order to finance the activities of the ‘Contra’ revolutionaries against the Sandinista regime in Nicaragua, every step of which violated declared government policy, domestic law, or international law—or all three. Ramifications included fund-raising from friendly Arab states and the employment of British mercenaries for commando raids.
Before ‘mission creep’ asserted itself, it was a modest operation conducted by Reagan's National Security Adviser McFarlane, assisted by Casey, the director of the hamstrung CIA, to prolong the war between Iran and Iraq in order to exhaust both, with the (unfulfilled) hope of obtaining the release of hostages held by pro-Iranian terrorists in Lebanon. But the large amounts of untraceable money this left in Swiss bank accounts proved too tempting to an administration wedded to realpolitik and frustrated by a hostile and highly partisan Congress. The key actors and/or scapegoats were Lt Col North and McFarlane's successor Poindexter. A special investigator obtained convictions against them and six other top officials, all either overturned on appeal or pardoned by Pres Bush.
Tsk. Tsk. Covertly working to bring down sovereign nations. What a surprise. I'm shocked. Dismayed. Mortified I tell ya.
Now McSame's involvement, to be fair, is suspect at best. His name was on the letterhead, but he didn't make any calls. There is, however, one fundamental difference. While Barack Obama has either condemned the activities of William Ayers or cut ties to Reverend Jeremiah Wright, McCain, although he may have resigned from the board, hasn't disavowed the council. The money quote:
"I don't ever remember hearing about his resigning, but I really wasn't worried about that part of our activities, a housekeeping thing," said Singlaub. "If he didn't want to be on the board that's OK. It wasn't as if he had been active participant and we were going to miss his help. He had no active interest. He certainly supported us."
