I know I'm in the minority but is "that one" really the storyline that we want to be focusing on coming out of the debate and with the financial markets positioned for another disastrous day? Wouldn't we rather the focus be on what a great job Barack Obama did over the course of 90 minutes than the one stupid comment by John McCain? We have a great candidate and all this focus on "that one" to me reeks of desperation. "Ah, we finally have something to nail John McCain on." We have a lot of stuff to nail John McCain on: his policies.
As impressed as I am that Cafe Press already has over 80 "that one" designs available on almost 2,000 products, this really does seem like silly season.
Was it a stupid thing for Senator McCain to say? Absolutely.
Did he mean it as disrespectful? Maybe. Personally, I don't think so but it doesn't really matter because whether or not he disrespected Senator Obama has nothing to do with the substance of John McCain's policies, which are the wrong ones for America.
Also, this is just going to be more fodder for the right-wing retards to avoid owning up to the fact that a majority of Americans disagree with their policies on the economy, national security, foreign relations, etc. This is just a distraction. What will they be talking about all day today? "Stupid media. All this focus on two words instead of what John McCain said, which most Americans agree with." I know they are going to blame the media anyway but I'd rather them not be able to hide behind this "that one" circus.
I think all this talk about "that one" really drags down the quality of our political discourse. Let's keep the focus on the issues. We'll all be better off as a result.
