When I'm at work, I study the basic mechanisms underlying epilepsy and try to figure out ways to prevent seizures. I'm a neuroscientist at a research university trying like lots of my fellow scientists to retain funding from the NIH. However, recently I may have stumbled onto a new area of research based on my own symptoms. I'm calling it:
Election Deficit Disorder, or EDD.
And whereas I have not yet collected enough data on this relatively new disorder of mine to publish a manuscript in Science or Nature, I would like to reach out to my fellow Kossacks and see if you suffer from it too.
The good news, is that I might just have stumbled on a cure for this annoying disorder.
Symptoms of EDD (not to be confused with the oft-advertised ED- google Cialis or Viagra for descriptions of those symptoms) include, but may not be limited too:
- Inability to focus at work
- Frantic need to compulsively check dKos for new breaking polls or news
- Unable to sleep
- Impaired relationships with crazy republican relatives
- Increased heart rate, tightening and churning of the stomach, and of course, sweaty palms
- Frequent crying bouts when viewing videos of Barack Obama giving great speeches
- Frequent crying when viewing diaries of voting or especially appealing volunteers (I'm talking about Charles Alexander here in particular)
Charles meets Barack by debha
- Frantic need to compulsively check every single blog, news page, magazine, newspaper, every 10 minutes, in the same order, for late breaking news, when you aren't already on dKos.
- Occasionally plagued by chicken little tendencies and the need to find shelter in the chicken coop
The Coop
- Yelling at republicans on TV (who clearly can't hear you)
Well fellow kossacks, those are my symptoms and I think it's safe to say from observation, the symptoms of my husband as well. Do you see signs of EDD in yourself or your loved ones? More importantly for study purposes, please list in the comments any symptoms I may have missed but are clearly related to EDD. We're thinking about grants here people and perhaps the ulitmate prize, the Nobel in election studies.
What can you do, short of drugs, alcohol, or prescription medicines, to alleviate these symptoms??????
Get out there and HELP!!!!!!!!! There are only a few more days (thankfully) left and Barack Obama and all the downticket races in a state you live in NEED YOU! Now! And i think you know the link by now, but if not, here it is one more time
go here and help!
I'm fired up and ready to go - watch out pennsylvania voters, your phones are about to start ringing!!!!
