Can the Electoral College save us from the insanity of a Palin Veep-ship? My brief research indicates that it might.

December 15, 2008 - Meeting of Electors: The electors in each State meet to select the President and Vice President of the United States. The electors record their votes on six "Certificates of Vote," which are paired with the six remaining original "Certificates of Ascertainment." The electors sign, seal and certify the packages of electoral votes and immediately send them to the President of the Senate, the Archivist of the United States and other designated Federal and State officials.

Each elector casts one vote for President and one vote for Vice President.
Hopefully some of the legal types here can comment if this works or not. I did a little googling and don't find a clear answer and don't plan to knock myself out trying to become a legal expert.
So who do we want as Veep if (God forbid) Mccain wins, and who would he choose?
Lieberman (comfort zone, stance on Iraq), Romney (helps with the economy), Huckabee (keeps the wingnuts happy and is better qualified than Palin), or who?
I think this scenario offers a prayer of saving this nation from a Palin veep-ship / presidency scenario and I hope it takes place if (God forbid) Mccain wins.
