CNN just broke this story:
POLK CITY, Florida (CNN) — At a boisterous Sarah Palin rally in Polk City, Florida on Saturday afternoon, one name was surprisingly absent from the campaign décor — John McCain’s.
Apparently, the rally had many of the usual themes usually seen at McCain events. A couple of large “Country First” banners, American flags and rally attendees that had McCain's name on their hats and t-shirts.
But on closer inspection, the GOP nominee’s name was literally nowhere to be found on any of the official campaign signage distributed to supporters at the event.
Instead, people in the audience were given “Country First” placards to waive. These were RNC placards.
There were other signs, paid by the campaign of Florida congressman Adam Putnam! And what did these signs have on them?
Take a look:
(I'm not very good at this photoshop thing, so forgive me if the blow up of the subtext is not clear enough. The original image was of a low resolution)
The sign was:
Florida is ...
PALIN
COUNTRY
The subtext was:
Paid for and authorized by Putnam for Congress
I don't know about you, but this is like nothing I've ever heard or seen before! No signage paid for by the McCain campaign. None!
It's mutiny!
Now, in all fairness, Palin mentioned McCain throughout her stump speech, and many in the audience came prepared with their own McCain signs. But it is fair to say that this is as odd as it gets.
Can you say "Palin for President 2012"?
