I am so excited for Malia & Sasha as they start out their term in the White House. It will be so great to see the girls grow up and memories of the Kennedy kids, and Amy Carter, will bring us back to days gone by. Of course it will be a lot more fun since the girls have each other (and the First Dog) to play around with. They are both so adorable and likeable that it should be a great 8 years for them (I'm thinking ahead!!) The girls stole the show at the 2008 convention and I'll bet they brought in some votes.
I went to private school myself for 12 years. I went to a coed grammar school and an all girls high school out in Long Island, New York. Those years were some of the best times in my life. They were the best of times and I am getting teared up just thinking of all the fun the Obama girls will have.
Makes me forget Lieberman for a couple of minutes.
And of course, color me not surprised to see that the first order of business for the day was Barack Obama walking the girls into school this morning while Michelle Obama's focus, once in Washington, was on scoping out a school for the girls.
From Newsday: Washington: (AP) Michelle Obama visited at least two well-known private schools Monday as she and President-elect Obama prepare to move their two young daughters to the White House in January. The soon-to-be first lady toured Georgetown Day School in the morning and Sidwell Friends School, which Chelsea Clinton attended, in the afternoon. In between, she spent about two hours visiting the residential portion of the White House with first lady Laura Bush. Their husbands met privately in the Oval Office.

Of course, you cannot please all of the people all of the time.
This, from Jossip: First off we have "Ha ha ha, you crazy liberals. You really thought that Barack Obama and his family was like you and yours, didn't you? That he was not actually a member of this shadowy and nebulous "liberal elite." Fools!
Turns out that Obama's first order of "spreading the wealth around" will find him not spreading the wealth at all, but merely transferring some of the wealth to other wealthy people in order to benefit the children of the wealthy. snip
Some comments include:
From Becky: The big deal is the hypocrisy in it all. He rails against the rich, he wants them to spread their money, he is for the poor and middle-class and disaffected, etc. Yet he does not live what he preaches. First he is cheap when it comes to charitable contributions (giving less of himself than he expects us to take in increased taxes), now he has to shield his children from those horrible public schools. I guess he likes to give away money (when it's someone else's) and mingle with the poor or middle-class (when it will get him votes and no other reason). This is going to be a long - but interesting - 4 years. He's Jimmy Carter II, so don't expect to see him around four more after that.
And not to be outdone, Brett says: Barack Obama raised more funds for his campaign than any candidate previous. Where do you think those came from? Answer: lobbyists and big corporations. He's not change. He's the appearance of change, and his elitist $1.6m house, private schooling, etc. are further proof of it.
Oy. What in the hell is wrong with these people? If they think they are going to do what they did to Chelsea Clinton throughout her White House years, they are very wrong.
