My mother (78 yrs old) went canvassing for Obama today, as she has for the past few weeks near Kennett Square, PA. Here's her email report to me, which I pass on verbatim.
................
I went canvassing this afternoon with two other women. We were sent to Coatesville because the Kennett area had been canvassed thoroughly. Coatesville is sort of a different world, very blue collar, with dying industry. It was very interesting.
It was a get out the vote effort, but just about all the voters we talked to could hardly wait to vote. Many were black and extremely charged up. There was a very big Obama HQ with workers from New York, New Jersey and DC. You got the feeling of great excitement. One of the women I went with was a retired MD who is thoroughly wound up about Obama. She has spent day and night working for him for the past couple weeks. She took time off this morning to take her husband to have some minor surgery, then dropped him off at home with only the dog for company. She was going back to fix his dinner, however. Saturday she sort of wrecked her car while she was canvassing, but she kept soldiering on. I went back to the HQ tonight to make some calls but only stayed about an hour because I have to get up early in the morning. They had lots of people there making calls, using their individual cell phones. Again it is a get out the vote effort calling likely Obama voters.
Let us all keep our fingers crossed, only uncrossing them in the voting booth.
