Greetings from rainy Richmond, VA. Actually, Henrico, VA. The county changed my mailing address from Richmond to Henrico this year.
I vote in an extremely red precinct. Over the last 16 years, my Rep. has been Tom Bliley and Eric Cantor.
I always vote early, normally around 7am. They write a number by your name when you check in. Usually I'm #7 or #13 and it takes all of 3 minutes to vote. Today, I was #145 and it took 40 minutes.
I waited in 2 lines, one to check in and one to vote. Each took about 20 minutes or so. It was pretty disorganized. The first line was to check in. There was a problem because the O-Z people had less to check in than the A-N line, so occasionally people were falling over each other to get to the right door.
After checking in, I stood in another line to vote. There were only 5-6 voting machines (touch screen) and one wasn't working. When I finally got to the booth, they made an announcement that some people weren't voting for President. They had all 3 contests (Pres, Sen, House) on one screen, so the President was in a thin left-hand side box, while the other 2 were in bigger boxes on the right. The display on the confirmation screen was even worse. I can see how some people might be confused.
When I left, the lines seemed shorter. This is the first time in my 16 years voting at this precinct that there has been so much activity so early. Hopefully, that bodes well for Obama.
