I've seen a couple of diarists almost complaining about how we lost the close races, didn't do as well as we thought, yada yada yada.
I've got 3 words for them...Low hanging fruit.
In the last 2 elections we have seen a huge swing towards "our team" in the Senate, House, Governors, and State Legislatures.
We've made some stunning changes. There are only 3, count them three, GOP house members in New York and New England. Some of the few remaing GOP senators outside of the deep south are moderate and no more out of place than say ours in the Dakotas.
What we are seeing, I interpret as a stunning triumph. Musgrove, gone, Delay, gone, C Harris, gone, Santorum, gone. Some of the worst wingnut water carriers are out of government.
But now is where it gets hard. Most of the easy pickings are gone. We are going to have to really start changing the perception of some hard core GOP voters and run almost perfect candidates to eat into things much further, particulary in the House of Reps. Face it folks, the low hanging fruit is off the trees.
So enjoy our many many successes, and get ready for one hell of a celebration on 1/20/09. Then the real work starts. And we start laying the groundwork to send the Bachmanns and Jindals back under the rocks they crawled from under.
