Yes I know this isn't a political diary. So if that pisses you off please just stop reading. But I also know we have a very diverse group of folks here (way more than my friends) and often advice can be found here that is worth its weight in gold.
Each holiday season I buy myself a "nice" gift. This year it will be an Xbox 360 or a PS3. But after hours of research I have no idea what to get.
So below the fold I give a little background and I hope folks here can help.
I am 39. I had pretty much every gaming system from Pong to the first Sega (my parents were/are cool). Then around 1992 I stopped gaming cold (work and stuff). About three years ago I got a used PS2, N64, and Sega Genesis in a package deal on eBay.
The first thing I have to say is wow, technology kind of improved!
Now I like all three systems, but I play the PS2 the most as you might expect. And I think it is important to mention I am not much of a first person shooter. I like sports games (MLB and Tiger Woods), Katamari, Destroy All Humans, Final Fantasy XII, and Dragon Quest VIII. And with those last two games I got no issue dropping another $25 on a third party manual to help. I like the detailed game play.
Now cause I have a PS2 and a Sony laptop, digital camera, and A/V system you might think I was leaning towards the PS3. But not so much. I am leaning to the 360, mainly cause the major games I play are not platform specific. The superior (I am told) online play, and price.
If I could get a Blu-ray drive in a 360 I am not sure I'd even post this or ask this question.
But I am asking, what should I get and why?
Please lets not get into the fanboy 360 vs. PS3 like we can see here when somebody asks about a Mac vs. PC (I have both BTW).
