As we prepare for the Obama House Parties this weekend,

this is to share a local community service project to be held in conjunction with the Inauguration of our President and Vice President Elects in January. It's called "Yes We Cans."
Follow me below the fold.
Following up on Kula2316's most excellent diary "Filling Empty Bowls: 36 Hours For Feeding America"
http://www.dailykos.com/...
we have developed a local service project and program named "Yes We Cans" here in the Triangle of North Carolina.
It's a food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina that will culminate on Inauguration Day.
Twenty five volunteers will be working in the food bank warehouse on Monday, January 19th as part of President Elect Obama's National Service Day. The fact that the Monday is a holiday will enable our legion of volunteers to conduct food drives in our neighborhoods and knock on the doors that we knocked on during our campaign canvassing.
Food items will be delivered by our "Community Organizers" to the Inauguration Party planned on Tuesday evening.
So this diary is simply to share what we are doing and hope that somebody somewhere may replicate it. Feel free to use the "Yes We Cans" moniker to organize a local food drive.
And one more thing, we have also set up a virtual food bank drive for folks that would like to make $$ donations on the Food Bank's website.
